Toledo's bulk pickup changed in 2026

Since January 5, 2026, the City of Toledo lets residents set out up to five bulk items each week with their regular trash pickup. You no longer call to schedule it. The catch is the weight limit: each item must be under 40 pounds.

That's fine for a small table or a bundle of boards. It rules out most sofas, dressers and full-size appliances. The weekly setup replaced the monthly scheduled bulk pickups, and the last day to book one was December 30, 2025.

Your options for heavy items

If you have a truck or trailer, the city lists Free Disposal Days at Hoffman Road Landfill for residents, who need a current utility bill and a valid photo ID. Check the city's page for dates. For questions about your own pickup, call Republic Services at 419-936-2511.

If you'd rather not load it yourself, that's what we do. We'll take it out of the house and haul it away, whether it's one heavy couch or a full cleanout.

Hazardous items

Lucas County residents can drop off household hazardous waste by appointment on Thursday and Saturday mornings. Call the county at 419-213-2230 to register.

Common questions

How many bulk items can I put out in Toledo?

Up to five bulk items each week with your regular trash pickup, and each one must weigh under 40 pounds, according to the City of Toledo.

Will Toledo pick up a couch?

Only if it meets the city's limit of under 40 pounds. Most full-size couches weigh more than that, so a couch usually needs a private hauler or a trip to a disposal site.
